“Gifts of St Vincent’s” by Kathryn Welbourn. Winner of the 2024 Arts and Letters Awards.

 

ST. JOHN’S, NL – The 2024 Newfoundland and Labrador Arts and Letters competition winners were announced on April 19, 2024 and the awards ceremony at The Rooms in St John’s. An exhibition of winning entries will be on display at The Rooms April 20the-May 19, 2024. You can all see a full list of the winners and their work on the Arts and Letters website.

Kathryn Welbourn, a winner in the Senior Visual Art Category, with her oil painting “Gifts of St. Vincent’s,”  at the awards ceremony at The Rooms on April 19, 2024 .  “This is my second time and two Honourable mentions. it’s really good. i just paint and paint so it’s good to get the adjudication.” Said Welbourn.

The Arts and Letters Awards Program was established in 1952 to encourage the creation of new works of art by residents of Newfoundland and Labrador. Open to both established and emerging artists of all ages, each year this iconic program recognizes excellence by awarding over 60 winners for original works in visual art, literary, French literary, music and media arts. All entrants receive a written adjudication, and winners receive a cash prize ($1,000 senior; $350 junior; $2,500 Percy Janes First Novel Award) and have the opportunity to participate in an annual exhibition at The Rooms.
